This is an as new collectible leather bound hardcover. 1982 Time Life photographically reproduced from the original 1882 First Edition, thus preserving the historical authenticity including typographical errors. Crisp and clean as new inside and out. Black leather bound hardcover with gold lettering and embossed frontispiece. Gold tipped page edges with attached red ribbon bookmark. Binding tight and straight as new. Handsome as new collectible, excellent addition for any Civil War Library or history library.
The author concentrates on what is was like to be soldier rather than describing battles. His discussions are charming discourses on uniforms, camp life, rations and marches. He was a teenager when joining the Confederate Army and his eagerness and impressionable nature characteristic of youth are obvious and enjoyable assets throughout the book. Written less than a decade after the Civil War ended, seven chapters first appeared serially in the Southern Historical Society Papers from 1876-1879.
