This is a wonderful collectible hardcover, no dust jacket as issued by publisher. 1967 Edition from Houghton Mifflin Publishing. Very clean and unmarked pages inside. Binding is tight and straight. Cover is clean with light shelf wear, some wearing at edges, but overall very good.
Although not a true first edition, this 1967 copy is still a hard to find collectible.
Originally published in 1939, this book has delighted generations. Mike and his red steam shovel named Mary Anne dig the great canals, cut through high mountains, and make holes for skyscrapers. With the advent of modern shovels though, Mary Anne is going to be sold for scrap!! Thanks to Mike, her fierce friend, she is saved and gains a permanent job when she digs a new town hall for Popperville. Unforgettable crayon drawings add to the character and charm of this book.
